Minimalism at Home, How To Turn Up The Zen On Your Cluttered Apartment

Unfortunately, we can’t all afford to live in the apartment of our dreams, but with simple tweaks to your current living space, you can create an environment that’s clean, modern and makes you feel happy every time you come home. Fashion has been having a serious minimalist moment for the last few seasons, and interior design seems to have followed suit: Open spaces, monochromatic details, simple touches, it all makes for a rather zen-like environment that’s perfect for tuning out a stressful work day. Here are a few ways to simplify your apartment!

Keep it monochrome

The number one reason why your apartment probably feels cluttered is because you have too many textures and colors happening at once. The floor is a different color wood from your table, which is a different color wood from your shelves. The first step is to bring everything into harmony by matching the colors to each other as much as possible (paint where necessary). Then add graphic black and white accents everywhere, mixing black with white picture frames on the wall, and b&w patterned pillows on the couch. Keeping things simple like this is an affordable way of giving your apartment tons of style on a small budget.

Paint it Black!

People tend to be terrified of black paint, thinking it will make your apartment look like a cave. Far from it, as long as used sparingly black can be a perfect way to give your place some needed style. Giving your apartment a single black accent wall gives it a bit of sophistication. Bonus, you can use a blackboard paint in the kitchen for a fun way to dress up an empty wall.

Make Your Floors White

Scandinavians are huge on white floors, but the style remains rare in North America. Your floors will naturally be a major element in any home since they cover the entire surface area of it, painting them white, or covering with beautiful white rugs will keep them from clashing with everything and create that beautiful monochromatic look we love.

Add a Sheepskin rug!

It’s up to you whether you go the faux route or not, but a touch of something simple and fluffy adds so much beautiful warmth to a room, not to mention they have a gorgeous texture. but remember to keep in monochromatic of course!
